ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Richard Lowry is a military historian – and an eleventh-generation American – whose ancestry dates back to Connecticut in the early 1600s.

He proudly served aboard the USS Ulysses S. Grant during the Vietnam War. Later, his career led him to participate in the development of products such as the Apache Helicopter’s Night Vision System which was utilized throughout Desert Storm.

His insatiable thirst for accurate information surrounding the events of Desert Storm spawned a twelve-year research project, the product of which is a meticulously-detailed recounting of each event of the Gulf War.

Richard’s tenacity and unparalleled knowledge of the events of Desert Storm validate his success and reputation as an historian. He has just finished Marines in the Garden of Eden, Berkley, 2006, which tells the story of the Battle for An Nasiriyah. He is currently compiling a detailed accounting the Second Marine Regiment's daily struggle to bring peace to Iraq. Viking in the Valley will be released in 2007.
